Alexandra "Alex" Trudeau lives in Lake Avalon, Florida. She is a photojournalist for a local newspaper. In her not too distant past, Alex had been shot by someone that had been trying to kill her sister, Charlie. Alex died in the Emergency Room and had been shocked back to life. That experience is what caused Alex's empathic abilities to emerge. Just like Charlie, whenever Alex has skin-on-skin contact with someone, Alex relives a traumatic event of that person's past. However, unlike her sister, Alex's ability does not show her only recent horrors. Alex can see any horrible event in that person's entire life time. To make the ability even more horrific, Alex wakes up to find her own body covered with any marks and wounds that the other person sustained during the past event. The only good thing is that the wounds fade away within an hour or so.Lake Avalon Detective John Logan used to be a detective in Chicago. He has been very attracted to Alex for quite some time. When she seems recovered from being shot, Logan finally asks Alex out. Their relationship is still new and fragile when Alex is kidnapped by Butch McGee. McGee is the brother of a man Logan had killed back in Chicago.
McGee is a serial killer who enjoys torturing and killing women. The FBI knows of twenty-three victims, but they are sure more remain unfound as yet. To punish Logan and avenge his brother, McGee goes after Alex. But every time McGee gets ready to torture Logan's girlfriend, Alex's eyes become unfocussed and her minds seems to go elsewhere. Alex finally becomes conscious to find that she has been rescued. Logan professes to love her, but he refuses to believe that she has empathic abilities. The last thing Logan wants is for the woman he loves to witness firsthand the horrors he has seen and done in his past. As Alex and Logan work on their relationship, McGee is still out there somewhere. Alex is the only one to ever survive an encounter with McGee and the killer looks forward to meeting Alex again very soon.
**** FOUR STARS! Alex's psychic ability is a lot harsher than her sister's and Alex sees/feels things from McGee that are horrible. More information is given about the mother's secret background. The last sister, Sam, who left fourteen years ago, is mentioned more than once too. Charlie and Noah are reduced to secondary characters but are still vital to helping Alex deal with her so-called gift. The beach side psychic helps Alex just as much and her down-home Southern hospitality shines through in every scene she appears. I look forward to more from this author. Stories by Joyce Lamb pack a serious punch to the gut! ****

True Colors by Joyce Lamb
Suspense/Paranormal Romance -Jan. 4th, 2011

Alex Trudeau, a local photojournalist, discovered that she has emphatic stigmata after her a near-death experience awoke her latent ability. Upon skin-to-skin contact with another being, she will literally live through their worst memory, often with physical injuries from the event branded on her skin. Alex does not want this ability. Living happily with her menagerie of rescued dogs, she just wants to focus on her work and John Logan - her best friend turned boyfriend. Unbeknown to her, a serial killer has targeted Alex as his next victim. The killer wants revenge against Logan and torturing and thinks killing Alex will cause Logan the most pain. Can Logan save Alex against the killer? Can Alex's sanity survive the trips into the killer's darkest, most brutal memories?
This book is not for the faint of heart. The scary memories locked up in the killer's mind are twisted, sadistic, and most of all brutal. The violence is very explicit, so be warned.
For the most part, True Blood is an engaging and tense read. You can really feel the tension as Logan races against time to find Alex and save her from the killer. Lamb does a good job maintaining the sense of urgency throughout the whole book. Another high point of the novel is that Alex and Logan like each other to begin with. They decided to commit to each other early on, which is refreshing change from other romances. There's no melodrama or insecurities between the 2 characters, which makes the whole book work. If they aren't united and in love, there's no way they can beat the bad guy.
All in all, True Blood is a terrifying, tense roller coaster ride. A must read for those who love thrillers.

This book was listed as New but has a musty smell and discolored pages. I made me sneeze.
Every one of these in this current series of seven is hard to put down. I usually complete the book in one day. I'm not usually into vampires and werewolves and Fae, but the creativity of these keeps me interested.
Just finished True Colors Babi to back with True Vision and have True Shot in my que to start as soon as I'm done here. Joyce Lambs writing style is unique and a perfect mix of romance, mystery and paranormal. I wish there were more siblings so this series didn't have to end soon. There are cousins mentioned, so we can hope Joyce will continue with them. Another muat read and re-read!!!!
When a near-death experience awakens a powerful empathic ability in Alex Trudeau, she loses her peaceful existence in Lake Avalon, Florida. Touching a person drags her into their most horrific memories so powerfully she suffers the trauma herself. Her new-found ability threatens her developing relationship with Detective John Logan. Logan moved to Lake Avalon to forget a tragedy. But the fallout from that tragedy finds him. When a vicious killer bent on revenge stalks Logan and Alex, Alex is thrown into the killer's sick mind. Defeating him puts the lovers' lives and their relationship on the line.
TRUE COLORS is the second book in a steamy trilogy about the Trudeau sisters. It's a powerfully emotional and sexy love story intensified by the dire threat facing the lovers. John Logan is the perfect tortured hero, strong, protective and tender, yet with a dark secret. Alex Trudeau, with her rescued dogs, is compelling and complex as she confronts her empathic ability, a new love and a maniacal killer. The twists and turns throughout kept me in suspense and turning the pages. I could not put down this book. And I can't wait for Joyce Lamb's next book in the series, TRUE SHOT.
